Downtown Hershey is about to get a bit spicier. Opening this weekend is Calicutts Spice Co., a local business owned by a mother-in-law/son-in-law duo that promises to bring some fresh flavors to Hershey.
Calicutts began as a hobby, but evolved into a flourishing local business. Owner Robert Orth’s journey started with a foray into seasoning meat, but after a few twists and turns became a business that creates spice blends to season anything. In 2015, Calicutts joined us at Market on Chocolate in Downtown Hershey; now Robert is setting down roots at 130 W. Chocolate Ave.
All of Calicutts spice crops are sourced from responsible, single origin crops grown by partner farmers across the world. These farms use traditional growing methods in order to cultivate the perfect crop. After getting just the right plant, Calicutts toasts them to draw out their richest flavors. Then the spices are hand blended together and ground, and ready to be consumed.
Everything Calicutts does helps to bring spice into the lives of the people. Even the name of the business was taken from Calicut, India, otherwise known as the “City of Spices.”
Calicutts is open Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and parking is available in the front of the store and in the garage behind the Hershey Story. More information is also available on their website. We hope to see you there. Stop by some thyme!
