Let the 75th Annual Battle for The Bean Commence!

It’s that time of year again – let the battle for the bean commence! This Friday night Hersheypark Stadium will be the location of Hershey’s most anticipated football game of the season. Hershey High School Trojans take on the Milton Hershey Spartans in the 75th Cocoa Bean Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm, but make sure to arrive early to hear the HHS marching band!

Proceeds from the game support the Hershey Community Youth Alliance (HCYA) for local and international community service projects.  The HCYA consists of student leaders from Milton Hershey School and Hershey High School, and this year they are teaming up to host a Cocoa Bean Sock Drive. This drive will benefit The DownTown Daily Bread, who are currently in need of over 900 pairs of NEW socks. Donations will be accepted at the game in designated collection bins located at both the Home and Away entrances.  The HCYA consists of student leaders from Milton Hershey School and Hershey High School, and is the Hershey Rotary Club Interact club.

The annual clash between these rivals has been presented by the Hershey Rotary Club since 1943. In addition to the gridiron clash, players from both teams attend a post-game Rotary Club breakfast on September 25, where each senior receives a participation pin. Rotary members also present an All-Star Trophy to the best offensive and defensive player on each team.

Let’s kick-off the fall season with history, sportsmanship, and school pride. And, whether you root for the blue and orange or proudly wear the brown and gold, it’s always great to see the winning team hoist the coveted Cocoa Bean trophy and display it in a place of honor in the school’s trophy case for the next year.

Volunteers are needed for the 75th Hershey Cocoa Bean Game. Volunteers who have worked in the past are asked to once again share their knowledge and experience with new Co-Chairs Steve Gelder and Francine Pommells. If you have not already signed up, but would like to help out at this historic event, please contact Steve Gelder at gelders@fnb-corp.com or Francine Pommells at francinepommells@gmail.com.
