Applications now being accepted for “Almost Free Trees”

The Township of Derry and the Derry Environmental Action Committee (DEAC) are once again submitting an application for a TreeVitalize grant to support their tree planting program in 2019. These grants make street trees extremely affordable for residents looking to add a little shade to their property during the spring of 2019.

If you are interested, please complete the Property Owner Tree Request Form that you will find at the “complete this ”tree request form” link on the DEAC website and return it in person or by mail to Ms. Jill Henry, Assistant Township Manager, Township of Derry, 600 Clearwater Drive, Hershey, PA  17033.

Residents are not required to submit an up-front payment due to the uncertainty

of the Township obtaining a 2019 TreeVitalize grant. If the grant request is funded, those who have requested one or two trees will be contacted to make a payment of $50.00 per tree.

The deadline for submitting the Tree Request form is June 22, 2018.

If the Derry Township grant request is funded, trees will be planted during April 2019 by our wonderful community volunteers. Homeowners are responsible for watering and caring for the planted trees.

Please note that even if a grant is approved it may not be sufficient to subsidize all trees requested, in which case the date of application will be used on a first come, first served basis.  If you have any questions about this program, please call the DEAC TreeVitalize Coordinator, Chuck Gassert at 717-566-5058.
