The Downtown Hershey Association is pleased to welcome Hershey Bikes, a Zagster bike share program, to Downtown Hershey! Made possible through the support of The Hershey Company, the Downtown Hershey Association is sponsoring the new East Chocolate Avenue station, located next to the MeltSpa.
Our new station is the first expansion of Hershey Bikes beyond the existing system in operation at the Cocoa Beanery and on the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center campus. The downtown location is fully integrated with the other stations and will enable medical center associates to bike to Downtown Hershey events, shops, and restaurants. Similarly, residents, visitors, and those who work downtown will be able to check out a bike for a ride on the Jonathan Eshenour Memorial Trail or visit other local destinations. They can dock the bike at satellite stations, such as the one located at the Cocoa Beanery.
Checking out a bike is easy with the Zagster mobile app, which features pay-as-you-go and annual membership options. Through the pay-as-you-go option, riders pay $1.50 per half hour; the annual membership rate of $25 allows members to ride for free for the first two hours during the week and the first four hours on weekends. Hershey Bikes, a Zagster Bike Share program, was established by the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on April 28, 2017. In the first year of operation, more than 1,000 members have joined the program, contributing to over 5,300 trips taken and totaling over 376,000 minutes of riding. In addition to helping to increase physical activity and well-being, this usage has helped to offset over 62,000 lbs of CO2 emissions!
Thank you to one of our sponsors, The Hershey Company, for making this possible!
