Uncle Filbur and Aunt K’s Pennsylvania Gift Store is now open at 102 West Chocolate Avenue. The retail establishment is owned and operated by Phil and Kveta Guarno, who also own Fenicci’s Restaurant and Philip Arthur’s Cafe, and offers consumers a taste of Central Pennsylvania. Visitors to the shop can expect a unique variety of Pennsylvania Dutch prepared foods in addition to unique gifts made by local artisans and craftsmen.
A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, April 11, to celebrate the grand opening. Dauphin County Commissioner Mike Preis attended the event and presented Phil, Kveta, and their son Philip with a proclamation declaring April 11, 2019 as Uncle Filbur and Aunt K’s Gift Shop Grand Opening Day in Dauphin County. Commissioner Preis, in reading the proclamation, noted, “Dauphin County deeply appreciates the presence of this new store in beautiful Downtown Hershey and the economic benefits it will bring.” Derry Township Supervisors Susan Cort, Justin Engle, and Rick Zmuda also attended the event and Chairwoman Susan Cort thanked the family for their commitment to Downtown Hershey and adding some additional retail offerings to the downtown.
The idea for the shop was first conceptualized by Phil Guarno fourteen years ago, but he recognized that the timing wasn’t right because there wasn’t a walking, vibrant downtown. He feels the new development and activity downtown will create a rising tide that benefits all businesses. Phil noted that they aim to be collaborative with other retail operators in the downtown so everyone is able to provide a unique experience for consumers.
Kveta acknowledged this project was different than their other restaurant ventures and stated, “the best part about it was the journey and getting to meet some amazing people along the way.” She indicated she was thankful for the artisans they met along the way and was looking forward to carrying their unique products.
Uncle Filbur and Aunt Kaye’s is open this spring Wednesday to Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
