Downtown Hershey’s Newest Boutique: Three Little Birds

While celebrating her 30th birthday in Las Vegas, Margaret Miller and her husband Thomas, both York, Pennsylvania natives, decided to officially move forward with opening Three Little Birds boutique. Upon returning home, the pair got to work and opened an online shop in September 2017 while their first brick and mortar store was still being built in Mechanicsburg.

Margaret felt as though there was a shopping environment missing in central Pennsylvania that so many residents experience while traveling and wish for at home. So, with her interest in the fashion industry, fueled by reading Instyle and watching The Devil Wears Prada, Margaret set out to create that environment here: A fun space with cute pieces for women like herself. Margaret started her business by self-educating through Google and taking advice from other local women business owners who eventually served as mentors.

After getting positive feedback about the Mechanicsburg location, a second Three Little Birds was opened in Downtown Hershey. On opening a second location, Margaret says: “you’re never really ready. It’s like having a baby; you don’t know what it will bring.” Because she plans and buys merchandise two seasons in advance, Margaret experienced stress regarding the timing of opening the second location.

While reflecting on the first few months in Hershey since opening in early October, Margaret says things couldn’t be better! She is enjoying meeting and developing relationships with Hershey residents as well as tourists. She says, “everyone has been so sweet!” Additionally, she is enjoying the amazing food options within walking distance of her Chocolate Avenue location: “either Chocolate Avenue Grill, Fenicci’s, or Freshido every day!”

At home, Margaret has three young children: a set of five-year-old twins, and a three-year-old son. When her twins were born, Margaret made the choice to leave her job teaching at The Milton Hershey School to stay home with her family. Now that she runs her own business, she enjoys a flexible schedule and sometimes brings her kids to the shop. Margaret believes it is important for her kids to understand work, why she does it, and what it provides.

You can visit Margaret’s boutique online at https://tlbboutique.com or in store at 131 W. Chocolate Avenue in Hershey Towne Square. Some of her featured brands include BB Dakota, Cupcakes and Cashmere, KUT From The Kloth, BlankNYC, and many more.
