The Swaines

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18

Celebrating ten years together, the Swaines’ passion for “beer-soaked flannel dirt rock” continues unchecked. With a sound loosely planted somewhere between rock and alternative country, the band draws influence from Neil Young, Jason Isbell, Wilco and the Old 97’s. Nearly fully healed from a self-serving and poorly timed shoulder surgery, violinist Lina Yang returns to the Swaines providing both softer nuances to the set as well as a hard charging compliment to lead guitar player Jack Mayer’s raw, string bending solos. The rhythm section, once thought entirely expendable or machine replicable, remains intact with drummer Jeff Sharp, bass player Thom Bissey and guitarist Rick Russell steadfastly committed to keeping the train near the tracks. A Swaines show is like your favorite boy band wandered into the Appalachians with a distortion pedal – except there’s a girl in the band and none of the boys can dance.[/text_output]
