This Week’s Featured Vendor
Introducing Carolyn Ali of Grandview Granola Company.

Image 2016-05-26 at 11.10.14 AMCarolyn is a passionate artisan who never expected to be the proud owner of a successful business. She works with her husband and a small army of helpers to create fresh yogurt parfaits made with a wide variety of her homemade granola. She developed her original granola without ever intending to sell it, but her supportive friends and family suggested otherwise. In overcoming the hardships in her life and meeting the challenges of owning a business, Carolyn relies on her faith in God. She puts her heart and soul into her business, but always makes time for her loved ones. Stop by each week at Farmers Market on Chocolate to experience all of her homemade treats!

Describe the moment you knew you needed to sell your products.
When I came up with my Just Right Blend granola, it was based on my personal ingredient preferences. Eventually I was making granola for family, friends, coworkers and the list was growing. At one point my husband said, “I think you could sell this stuff.”

What is the one thing you wish you knew before starting your own business?
How easy it is to get carried away and become too busy. We fight very hard to maintain a good balance, and we protect and cherish our “down time.”

What song best describes your work ethic?
This was hard. First off, I rely heavily on my faith throughout my daily life and work so Great is thy Faithfulness comes to mind. I’m generally a positive person so Three Little Birds by Bob Marley applies, but on an off day I would go with, It’s my Party and I’ll Cry if I Want to.

How would you sell hot cocoa on the beach in Florida?
Put peppermint Schnapps in it! Or set up a “snow tent” where people can go inside and experiences snow and cocoa on the beach.

Name three people (famous or otherwise) you would love to have as customers?
Gee, I’m not sure what to say here. I couldn’t ask for better customers. I am happy for every new one and existing one that comes my way!

What product do you believe to be your prized item?
It’s not really a possession, but my faith is the bedrock of everything good in my life, and it is something that can never be taken. I would not have gotten this far without it.

Describe one difficult challenge in your life and how you have grown from it.
Unexpected loss, rejection and betrayal. I am stronger because I realize you can always get up and continue on. Beauty from ashes.

If you were the new item in the market what would you be?
Really good coffee and cinnamon rolls. Because that’s always good and because that’s what I’m craving right now!
